Dear all
I am now on annual leave until the 2nd August, destination Goa to the Seva Trust Orphanage. Not a traditional holiday destination I know ! .I am travelling with a party of 23 students and 4 teachers from my childrens school in Spain (Monique my daughter is travelling also).
Two years ago Judy and David Batten who are teachers at the school were holidaying in Goa when by chance they came upon an Orphanage which was "home "to 22 girls under the age of 12..The conditions were and still are dreadful ,they didn't continue with their planned holiday instead they spent the next 6 weeks trying improve the conditions.
When they returned to the school they started a series of fund raising events supported by the school, students and parents and over a period of 2 years raised funds to purchase a new home for the children.
We are now starting our journey to the Orphanage our challenge to complete renervations to the new building painting etc and to move and settle the children into their new home .We have several challenges we have a deadline for the 31st July to move as the lease on the. Current Orphanage expires .It is monsoon time and many of the children are sick. In addition twin baby girls have been left this week on the doorstep and they need help. The orphanage is also a place of refuge for 60 street children who visit daily.
I will be in contact to update you all with our progress (if my blackberry works ) Kind regards Michelle and Monique
